Cavern Diving in Malta

This course is designed to safely train students in the established procedures and protocols to dive in an overhead environment while being within the light zone at all times, without incurring any decompression obligations and within course limits

The RAID Cavern Specialty has been prepared to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to participate and enjoy basic cavern diving. During this course, you will learn about the risks associated with diving in an environment with a hard overhead. Because cavern diving (and cave diving) does not afford divers an option to “swim directly to the surface” since what is above them is solid rock, open-water training, even as an experienced open-water diver or instructor, does not cover the special skills, equipment modifications, specialized dive planning, or emergency rescue skills you will be learning about in this course. Furthermore, your course is designed to provide the basic knowledge and skills-based coaching that will allow someone with no specific desire to become “technical diver” to be able to enjoy entrance into moderate and limited overhead environments where daylight is the primary illumination, such as the cavern area of caves, cenotes, and coral swimthroughs You will learn about special equipment considerations for overhead environment diving such as lighting, guidelines, reel management and line marking, and the need for, configuration, and use of a redundant gas supply to be used in the event of an unexpected problem.
