JJ CCR Try Dive

Price: €180

The RAID Rebreather Try Dive aims to familiarize you with the fundamental principles of rebreathers and enable you to gain hands-on experience in confined water, and optionally, in open water environments while using a rebreather. It is important to note that this experience does not confer any formal qualification.

In preparation for the RAID Rebreather Try Dive, it is crucial to ensure that all of your regular scuba diving equipment is in excellent working condition. This includes your mask, fins, wetsuit or drysuit, regulator, and BCD. Additionally, you may need to bring other specialized equipment specific to the rebreather you will be using.

During the Try Dive, you will be required to complete reading materials or handouts as directed by the instructor. You will also be asked to demonstrate your ability to maintain buoyancy while wearing the rebreather and to perform fundamental skills with the unit.

The practical component of the Try Dive involves swimming with the rebreather in confined water to become familiar with its function and features. If you feel comfortable and confident, you may also choose to participate in an optional open water dive, with a maximum depth of 15 meters, to experience the rebreather in a more realistic setting.

About the Course

If you want to try rebreather diving in Malta, then the RAID Rebreather Try Dive is the place to start. But first you will be required to complete several tasks. You must read through selected text or handouts provided by the instructor. Next, you will need to demonstrate your ability to maintain buoyancy with the rebreather and execute basic skills using the unit. You will then practice swimming with the rebreather in confined water and may have the option to participate in an open water dive to a maximum depth of fifteen meters.

It is important to note that there can be no more than two students per instructor during the program, and all dives must be conducted at depths not exceeding fifteen meters. While the Try Dive does not lead to a formal qualification, the instructor may issue a wall certificate to acknowledge your participation.

Throughout the course, you will develop various water skills, including practicing buoyancy control, performing basic drills as directed by the instructor, using manual overrides, and monitoring the system. The program is conducted over a single day, with theory in the morning and practical sessions in the afternoon. As a qualified diver, you must provide proof of at least ten logged dives and be at least fifteen years old with parental or guardian authorization, or eighteen years old without such approval.

After completing the Try Dive, you will have a better understanding of rebreathers and can decide which unit is best suited to your diving goals. With rebreathers, you can embark on more adventurous diving experiences, explore greater depths for longer periods while staying warm, and conserve gas.
